sewri fort

for tourists and mumbaikars alike, the city's fortifications remain quite unknown. along the western as well as the eastern coastlines, are remnants of mumbai's forts. this pic is of the fort at sewri, in the midst of the warehouses, oil storage tanks, defunct factories, mud-flats and mangroves, having a magnificent view of the eastern water front.

the forts are now thankfully being given a makeover, under the Mumbai Fort Circuit plan of the MMRDA, and the plans for sewri fort include a flamingo observation centre.

for more about the sewri fort, how to get there, and things around it, see my article here

it's curious: the involvement of those other countries many years ago guarding things and the fort remains as an interesting attraction. BTW are you changing your profile to show this blog and the CDPhoto, by continents, drop down menu, is good to show, dont you think?

@ julia, the fortifications exist but are not really very popular as tourist attractions. things may change after the Fort Circuit programme is completed.

And, my profile now has this blog listed. CDPhoto didn't initially approve the blog as it wasnt updated daily, i'm going to re-apply for membership soon, the dropd-own menu shall come immediately after that.

I love seeing websites that understand the value of providing a quality resource for free. It is the old what goes around comes around routine.
